Dualism

Uganda's economy is dualistic in nature. Dualism refers to the co-existence of different socio-economic sectors, one being superior, while the other inferior. For example:

The modern and traditional sector.

The urban and rural areas.

The affluent rich and the peasant poor.

Modern technology and the primitive/rudimentary technology.

The monetary and the subsistence sectors.

The educated and illiterates.

Inter-sectoral dualism i.e. different levels of the development between sectors e.g. between agriculture and industry.

Intra sectoral dualism i.e. different levels of development within one given sector e.g. different levels of technology within the agriculture sector.

International dualism i.e. the different levels of economic progress between the developed and the underdeveloped world; where the developed nations economically exploit the less developed ones.
