KAWA is a national provider of professional development services to enhance learning outcomes for educators, schools, and children around the country.
Leading the latest thinking on teaching and learning, KAWA offers a combination of blended professional development face-to-face workshops, and online learning combined with Virtual teachers and mobile services to dramatically improve educational outcomes at national and regional levels.
It was founded by senior teachers of St. Mary’s College Kisubi, supported the old boys of the college, and embraced by the Ministry of education and Sports, National Curriculum Development Centre and the Uganda Communications Commission and the RCDF. It has now developed into a network covering the whole country with close attachment to Makerere University Business School.
KAWA was registered as a CBO in 2006 with the main aim of publishing and supplying, at an affordable cost, educational books and other scholastic materials suitable for the Ugandan demand and environment. This was after realizing the gap between the books published by multinational publishers for the African child and the actual needs of the local demands.
In addition, KAWA markets books via direct marketing and through established Student distribution channels. The direct marketing of KAWA books is implemented through its textbooks readership base. In addition, the Agency seeks to link Schools online.
